The 23 Best Indie Spring Shops in Chicago

It’s Spring!—and unlike yesterday, it even feels like it—and we’re ready to stroll down the streets of Chicago, sipping iced coffees and hopping into the cute independent boutiques and flower shops our city has to offer.  We’ve put a list of our favorite spring-forward stores.  And who knows?  Maybe you’ll run into one of us at these stores; we’ll be the shoppers wearing yellow.

1902 West Montrose Ave.
If you’re looking to buy yourself a present, we strongly suggest Hazel.  Oh, and we suppose you could also pick up some presents for friends.

P.O.S.H.

P.O.S.H. is one of the most inviting stores on State Street.

613 North State St.
Posh is filled with flea market goodies, but the best part is what’s outdoors: A beautiful courtyard that we’ve missed this long Chicago winter.

Brimfield
5219 North Clark St.
This Andersonville store is filled to the brim (see what we did there?) with housewares and home decor.

Art Effect
934 West Armitage Ave.
From scented candles to clothing, jewelry to Chicago-inspired knick-knacks, this Lincoln Park store has everything you could ever want.

Inkling
2917 1/2 North Broadway Ave.
Come here for prints by local artists, unique greeting cards and unique earrings.

2958 North Clark St.
Twosided is the more home decor and stationery-offshoot of Foursided, another great shop that offers prints and frames.

3527 North Southport Ave.
M2’s website promises reasonably priced “baubles,” and the store does not disappoint.

2725 North Halsted St.
This store offers artfully designed flower arrangements that will brighten up even the cloudiest of days.

Wolfbait
3131 West Logan Blvd.
Stop at New Wave Coffee, the quintessential “Logan Square Haunt,” and then head over to Wolfbait for some locally-made merchandise.

Fleur
3149 West Logan Blvd.
And while we’re in Logan: What says spring more than knick-knacks and flowers?

Virtu
2034 North Damen Ave.
Virtu bills itself as the “perfect place to find something for someone who has everything,” and we couldn’t agree more.

Isle of Man
3856 North Lincoln Ave.
Trust the name: This is a boutique curated specifically for men.

Rudy’s Roundup

There’s a reason it’s called Rudy’s roundup.

1410 North Milwaukee Ave.
For cards, stationery and anything else you may need to round up for your home.

Eskell
1509 North Milwaukee Ave.
Eskell has you covered for all your hipster clothes, sunglasses and coffee table book needs.

Paper Doll
2027 West Division St.
This store lives up to its name.  In addition to jewelry and knick-knacks, it does stock paper and dolls—although we’re not sure it has any paper dolls.

Una Mae’s
1528 North Milwaukee Ave.
Once a solely vintage store, Una Mae’s now doubles as a thrift shop and a boutique with unique, one-of-a-kind clothing.

Stitch
1723 North Damen Ave.
Stitch sells goods big and small, from cute purses to stylish sofas.

Sir & Madame
938 North Damen Ave.
Sir & Madame is one of those shops you can go into just to “look”—and end up leaving with a new pair of sunglasses, a cross-body bag and a blouse.

Sprout Home
745 North Damen Ave.

Terrarium, anyone?
Sprout Home in Ukrainian Village is where to go.

Looking for a terrarium?  How about a garden gnome?  Sprout Home is your place.

Cattails Flower Shop
1935 West Division St.
Ukrainian Village is the place to go for flowers, whether for your home or for special occasions.

Haberdash Men’s Shop
Various locations
We can’t put together a list of spring shops and not include a haberdashery.

Dolan Geiman
1048 West 37th St.
Geiman is a local artist whose Bridgeport studio features art with a Southern flair.

1365 East 53rd St.
Need new pots and pans for all those spring and summer dishes you plan to make?  Stop here for pots and pans and then head just up the street to our President’s preferred brunch spot, the always-tasty Valois.
