Introducing Family Labs at Chicago Ideas Week 2018
Chicago Ideas Week is the ideas festival for everyone—including your kids! We’ve long heard from our community about their desire to see more Lab programming that would allow them to bring their children along to experience these exclusive, hands-on activations with Chicago’s brightest innovators. You asked, we listened. We’re excited to share that Family Labs are officially a part of the 2018 program lineup—and with your continued support, we hope to bring even more in years to come.
Our Family Lab partners are just as excited as our community about bringing this programming to the lineup. We spoke with Kristina Lowenstein, Co-founder and Executive Director of The Honeycomb Project, about her team’s involvement in one of our two Family Labs this year. Lowenstein shared that their team is “so excited to have the opportunity share our work with new families at Chicago Ideas Week.” When asked about their decision to focus on the appreciation of our nation’s veterans, she shared, “With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, we planned our Family Lab in partnership with National Veterans Art Museum (NVAM) to honor veterans through art. The museum is the perfect setting to help children and their families connect with the challenges faced by our veterans and get creative!”

Honor Our Veterans
At this Family Lab, join The Honeycomb Project after-hours at the National Veterans Art Museum (NVAM) for a special look at service and a way to give back yourselves. Explore NVAM, which features more than 2,500 works of art by more than 225 veteran artists, providing a unique perspective on the controversial subject of war.
Channel Your Inner Snow Queen
Climb inside the world of The Snow Queen with skilled, imaginative teaching artists from the Filament Theatre, a performing arts organization that creates immersive theater experiences for young people. Exercise your creative muscles exploring the themes and images of the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale through games, puppetry, movement, and more.
