CIW Around Town: August 2012, Week 2

Well, we’ve officially made it to mid-August. Welcome back, confusing Chicago weather! And if our office countdown is correct, it looks like we have 53 DAYS until CIW 2012. Whoa. But to stay entertained until then, here are a few awesome events going on this weekend around the city. 

Beauty and the Beast

Industry of the Ordinary: Sic Transit Gloria Mundi

Through sculpture, text, photography, video, sound and performance, Industry of the Ordinary are dedicated to an exploration and celebration of the customary, the everyday, and the usual. Their emphasis is on challenging pejorative notions of the ordinary and, in doing so, moving beyond the quotidian. Learn more here

Chicago Air & Water Show

Be one of two million spectators to gather on the lakefront. Expect Blue Angels, Firebirds and a parachute team! And, as always, it’s free. 

Don’t forget to check out Chicago Navy Week 2012 in honor of the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812. Visit Navy Pier to tour boats and meet sailors.

StoryCorps MobileBooth: Chicago

The StoryCorps MobileBooth is an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio that travels the country year-round collecting stories. And a StoryCorps interview is a chance to ask someone you know about his or her life. For 40 minutes, you get to ask the questions that really matter. Learn more here.


Running of the Bulls Pub Crawl
Saturday, August 18
Begins at Happy Village (1059 N. Wolcott) @ 2:30 PM














The Chicago Urban Sportsman and Adventurers Society joins forces with the ladies of the Windy City Rollers in the second annual Running with the Bulls pub crawl. Conclude your night at Darkroom with Chicago’s premier Talking Heads tribute band, This Must Be The Band.
