CIW Playlists: Matt Hires

Musician Matt Hires went from MySpace to Schuba’s in just seven short years.  The Florida native, who first picked up a guitar at age 11, was discovered by record executives in 2007 via his MySpace page.  Now, he’s parted ways with his label, Atlantic Records, and is making a go of it as an independent musician.  “It was fun to be able to just record something and put it out when I was still excited about it,” Hires said of the recording process as an independent musician, which took two months compared to the over a year it took to produce his most recent record under Atlantic.

We met up with Hires at Schuba’s, where he made a stop on his current tour with Alex Dezen of the Damnwells and where he was kind enough to compile some music we should check out—besides the music on his own most recent EP Forever, of course.  (Pro tip: Only listen to his single “Restless Heart” if you’re prepared to have a very catchy tune stuck in your head.)
