Events: Where to Think Out Loud this Weekend


Watch world-class racers from across the glob compete on Lake Michigan for a $100,000 cash prize and points for the overall world championship, worth $1.75 million in prize money. Source: Chicago Match Cup
This weekend you can excite your senses by air or water, experience cultures from across the world or take a step back in time. Where will you Think Out Loud?
1.      Sail away at the  Chicago Match Cup.
Watch as 12 of the world’s top-ranked skippers and their crews show off their sea-faring skills just off Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. The sailing races take place alongside the annual Tall Ships Festival, so all of your swashbuckling desires will be fulfilled in just one weekend. Be sure to attend Sunday for the Chicago Cup finals and award ceremony.

2.      Immerse yourself in Japanese culture at the 58thAnnual Ginza Festival.
At this festival hosted at the Midwest Buddhist Temple you can shop for items made by master craftsmen who use techniques that were passed down for hundreds of years, watch taiko drumming and martial arts demonstrations or even learn how to build a bonsai garden. Of course there will also be an abundance of traditional Japanese food, so come hungry!

3.      Fly high at the Kite Festival.
Watch expert kite flyers of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois, who will perform stunt routines set to music at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Or if you’d rather get in on the action, learn how to build your very own kite at a kite-making workshop.

4.      Show your best moves at Chicago SummerDance.  
Enjoy two hours of live music and dancing in Grant Park on a 4,900-square foot, open-air dance floor made out of 100 percent recycled materials, which was designed by artist Dan Peterman. If you feel like you may need to brush up on your dancing skills, each dance session is preceded by an introductory one-hour dance lesson by professional instructors.

5.      Step back in time at Retro on Roscoe.
Muscle cars, great music and fantastic food will liven up Roscoe Village this weekend. Enjoy three main stages of top local talent, comfort food and antiques that will take you back to the rock ‘n’ roll days of the 1960s.
